Stratford Allen, 74, of Sharon
Consulting Engineer, Saturday Rites at 11
SHARON--Stratford B. Allen, 74, of 36 Glendale Rd., a consulting engineer, died Wednesday of injuries suffered Sunday when he was struck by a car during the town's Fourth of July celebration.
Born in Boston, Mr. Allen graduated from Harvard College in 1914. During World War I, he worked on anti-submarine research for the Navy in New London, Conn., and participated in the development of the first acoustic mine.
In 1934, he founded Sigma Instruments, Inc., now of South Braintree. He later worked for Allied Control Co. of New York City, and Ward Leonard Electric Co. of Mt. Vernon, NY.
He was a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Harvard Engineering Society. He was also a member of St. Alban's Lodge of Masons in Foxboro.
He leaves his wife, Ethel (Reddick); four sons, S. Roland Allen and Walter B. Reddick, both of Sharon, John E. Reddick of Norwood and Malcolm P. Reddick of Los Angeles, two daughters, Mrs. Pauline A. Brookfield of Canton and Mrs. Robenia A. Alexander of East Walpole, and a brother, Rowland of Indianapolis, Ind.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church.
