SALEM - Ada Mae Wiedeman died peacefully in Salem on February 6, 2008 at the age of 92.

She was born to George P. and Elizabeth Nightingale Schmitt January 6, 1916 in Dallas, Oregon. She grew up on the family farm and attended elementary and high school in Dallas.

Ada met Charles Wiedeman in Dallas and they were married there July 1, 1933. Her husband was a building contractor and for the next 20 years she was his bookkeeper.

Ada moved to Salem with her husband in 1960 following a real estate transaction. While in Salem Ada enjoyed refinishing and upholstering antique furniture, and caning chairs for customers. She taught chair caning at the YMCA for several years. Ada loved to sew and was a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed gathering field ripened fruits and vegetables which she canned and froze for future use. She was an excellent cook, her specialty was homemade pies for all to enjoy as they dropped in.

Ada was a big sports fan and her favorite hobby was watching the Trail Blazers play basketball. Ada was a member of The Pythian Sisters, Willamette Temple #45 of Dallas for over 50 years. She was a member of The Polk County Historical Society.

In 1994 following her husband's illness she moved back to Dallas, residing at the Meadow Creek Village on Ellendale Ave.

Ada is survived by her son, Marvin and wife Karen of Dallas, Oregon; daughter, Charleen of Nehalem; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Anne Leppin of Dundee, Oregon. Ada was preceeded in death by her husband Charles, a sister, two brothers, one grandson and one granddaughter.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., Feb 13th at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Polk County Museum or the Delbert Hunter Arboretum.
