Edward Joseph Zellner died peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at a local hospital. He was a devoted husband of 41 years to Irene Oltiveros Zellner.
Born in Lehighton, Pennsylvania and raised in Weissport, Pa., Edward was the son of the late Joseph H. and Anna M. Messinger Zellner. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Richard.
Edward proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 29 years with 13 years as a Missile Fire Control Instructor. He retired as a CW04, serving two tours in Korea and one in Germany. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in El Paso.
Ed was dedicated to the game of golf. He was inducted into the El Paso Golf Hall of Fame on October 14, 1998, and served as a member of the USGA and Sun Country Amateur Golf Association since 1980. Ed also conducted rules clinics in the Southwest for many years and worked closely with area schools and junior organization tournaments.
Our family sincerely thanks all the doctors and nurses who cared for him during his illness. We invite all who knew and cared for him to Martin Funeral Home 3839 Montana Avenue. Services are on July 2, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at post chapel #2, St. Michael's Chapel, Fort Bliss on Monday July 3, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
