Death Comes
To Dr. Arthur Shortt
Dr. A. L. Shortt 63, an Ottumwan Chiropractor since 1936 died at his home at 304 North Court Street at 5:20 a.m. Sunday after a long illness.
He had practiced his profession here with his wife Dr. Ada L. Shortt.
Dr. Shortt was born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada November 16, 1894, the son of Richard C. and Mary Ellen Shortt.
He came to the United States in 1922 and became a citizen.
He received his bachelor of science degree from Western University at Atlanta, Ga., and graduate from the National Chiropractic college in Chicago. Prior to that, he had graduated from the Canadian Chiropractic College.
He ws a member of the Ambassador branch of the Canadian Legion, and the following Masonic orders in Ottumwa; Empire Lodge No. 269, A.F. and A.M. Clinton chapter No. 9, R.A.M. Ottumwa council No. 9, R.S.M. Maita Commanderary No. 21, Kights of Templor, and Ottumwa chapter No. 112 of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Kaaba Shrine of Davenport.
He was a member of the First Pentecostal Assembly of God church.
Surviving are his wife; Dr. Ada I. Short; a sister Marion Shortt of Toronto, Canada, and four brothers; Wesley, Jess, Hubert and Mark Shortt all of Canada.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 at Jay Funeral Home in charge of Rev B. Friend.Interment will be in Memorial Lawn with Masonic services at the graveside.
