Charles was the son of Dorsey and Mary Jane wolf Chronister. He married Velma Lenora Bickle Chronister (1906-1973) on July 4, 1931 and they had three children. Charles W. Chronister Jr., Mary E. Chronister (Boone) and Daryl E. Chronister.

Second marriage was in Nov. 1974 to Gertrude Meyers.
