He married Nancy H. Shelton (5 July 1795 — 11 February 1842), a daughter of Samuel Shelton and Jane Henderson, on 1 January 1811 in Mercer County (present-day Boyle County), Kentucky.
A farmer, he settled in Barren County, Kentucky by 1812, and in Wayne County, Illinois by 1820.
He died in December 1869 of pneumonia at the age of 82.
