After his basic training, Private Aaron was assigned to the 631st Tank Destroyer Battalion, training at Camp Bowie, Texas. The 631st TD Battalion was composed of troops from the 31st Infantry Division and was activated on December 31, 1941 as a part of the general reorganization of the U.S. Army's anti-tank forces. Private William Aaron was killed in a training accident at Camp Bowie on June 12, 1942. His unit was training to drive under blackout conditions when he ran off the roadway into a culvert and was killed.
