He was born on August 23, 1943 in Velasco, Texas and had lived in Newton for most of his life.
He had owned and managed Smith Sandblasting and Painting in Newton for many years and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith of Newton, daughters, Dana Lisowsky of Toledo Bend, Texas, Lesa Davis of Port Arthur, Texas, Melanie Smith of Newton and Karen Adams of Newton, sons, Alan Null of Sour Lake, Texas and David Hardy of Mt. Vernon, Texas, brothers, Dennis Smith of DeRidder, Louisiana, Billy Ted Smith of Buna, Texas and Richard Smith of Beaumont, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and expecting a great grandson in September.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Elizabeth Peters Smith and his brother, Robert Joe Smith.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 5pm until 8pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 4, 2014 at 10am at Smith Funeral Home.
Burial to follow in the Newton Cemetery, Newton, Texas.
