Aubra A. Akers, who worked at Norton Air Force Base since 1942, was the senior crane operator at the base motor pool in 1956.
He was away from his Norton job for 23 months when he served a hitch with the 43rd Construction Engineers, stationed in Japan and returned to Norton in 1946.
When he returned to the base, "Skip", as he is better known to his co-workers, has driven every type of vehicle, and has unloaded many thousands of tons of material--all without a single accident.
In 1965, he became a member of the exclusive "2,000 hour club" at Norton. Akers had accrued 2,080 hours - over one year - of sick leave.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 106 of Redlands and loved playing baseball with his "buddies"
