Oliver was a veteran of World War II. He landed at Omaha Beach with the First Army and fought across Europe to the Elbe River to meet Russian forces, and then on to Berlin. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor. He was deep in his faith and a lifelong member of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church. He was also a lifelong member of the VFW Post 1001. He was kind, loving, generous, and thoughtful to all.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, Wilton Horace Bagwell and Helen Watkins Bagwell; his brothers, Robert Bagwell and John Bagwell; and sister, Margaret Bagwell Setzer.
Oliver is survived by his loving wife Julia Schulz Bagwell; children, Joan Crowson (Danny), Oliver Kenneth Bagwell, Jr.; his step children, James (Carol) Buehler, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Buehler, and Lisa (Timothy) Harrod; grandchildren, Nathan Barnhardt, Keith Barnhardt, Kevin Barnhardt, Sarah Parker, Melissa Burdette, T. Aaron Harrod, Jamison Buehler, Caroline Buehler, Sydney Schmidt, Amanda Schmidt, and Garrett Schmidt, and many loving great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Marvin Bagwell.
Services will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11 am. Graveside services will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
