CHAMPAIGN – Robert James Hixson, 99, of Champaign passed away at 5:46 p.m. Monday (April 28, 2008) at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dive West, Savoy. The Rev. J. Wesley Wilkey will officiate. Burial will be in Bailey Memorial Cemetery, Tolono.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hixson was born November 28, 1908, in Sadorus, a son of Grover and Jessie Palmer Hixson. He married Mildred Reno in 1931 in Urbana. She passed away in February 1955.

Survivors include one son, Danny (Ann) Hixson of Findlay, Ohio; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, John E. Hixson of Champaign; and one sister Ruth Calvert of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Hixson was a farmer from 1928 to 1945. He owned and operated Hixson Soil Service in Champaign from 1945 until his retirement in 1970.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Champaign-Urbana Elks Lodge 2497.
