William A. DeLoach, 77, husband of Edythe (Harris) DeLoach, was born in Cuthbert, GA, was formerly of Hartford, living in Rocky Hill the past 30 years. He was employed by the Conn. Department of Transportation, and worked at the Testing Lab in Rocky Hill, retiring in 1972 after 29 years of service, retiring as Senior Materials Chemist, head of Chemical Laboratory, and was Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation.
He earned his B.S. Degree in Chemistry at Howard University and at the university was a member of Beta Kappa Chi, honorary science society. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Alpha Psi Boule chapter of the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.
He tutored many area students in math and science. He served as trustee of the Hartford Rehabilitation Center, taught Sunday School for 30 years and was a deacon at the Union Baptist Church in Hartford until poor health forced him to become inactive. He served on the Community Development Action Committee in Rocky Hill. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, and was a Mason with the Excelsior Lodge No. 3 AF & AM.
He died Saturday, Feb. 23, 1991, leaving to cherish his memory, besides his wife, two daughters; Anita Gaston of Bloomfield, Edythe Carolyn DeLoach Smith of Rocky Hill; a sister Ester Alvarez of Paradise, CA; two grandchildren, Tasha Anderson of Los Angeles of Los Angeles, CA. Gregory McMillian of Bloomfield; a great-grandchild, other relatives and a host of friends.
