Marysville Daily Appeal - 8/9/1898, p1 - A Ranch Hand Dies: Succumbs to an Attack of Congestion of the Brain - James Strohn, a ranch hand, whose home was at Panoche, San Benito county, died at the U. S. Hotel Sunday afternoon. The doctor's certificate shows that the primary cause of his death was malaria, and the secondary, congestion of the brain. - Strohn, who had not reached his 19th year, had been at work on F. R. Lofton's ranch, near Wheatland, for a few months, and recently went to work on a harvester at the Rubel ranch in Marysville township, where he was taken ill on Thursday, and was brought into town on Saturday, and was attended by Drs. C. E. and Elmer Stone. - The brother of deceased had several hundred head of horses on pasture in this vicinity. - The remains were shipped to Hollister on the local train yesterday morning, the mother and sister of deceased accompanying them.
