Competed as a member of the Swiss Rowing Team in the 1936 Olympics receiving a silver and bronze medal. He moved the Michigan Steel Company to Whitehall in the 1940s. He later moved to Ann Arbor where he started his own company the International Automation Corporation. In 1973 he married Jean Corfield Hannan. Following her death, he helped establish the Jean C. Homberger Fund to benefit the arts and also the Jean C. and Alex H. Homberger Fund to provide scholarships for Muskegon area youth.
