Fred D. Allen, 72, Cozad, Neb., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at a Cozad nursing home.
Mr. Allen served as city clerk and county clerk in Marion, Kan. He worked as a county assessor in Manhattan, Kan., from 1965 to 1969, when he moved to Topeka and worked as the director of the Kansas Association of Counties. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was born Dec. 13, 1927, at Marion, the son of Orlando and M. Faye Byram Allen. He graduated from Marion High School in 1945. He graduated from Emporia State College in 1951.
Mr. Allen was a member of the First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, O.E.S., the Shrine and American Legion.
He married Phyllis Suffield in May 1948. They divorced. He married Mary Prokop in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Coni Bratton, Cozad; a son, Maurice Allen, Topeka; a sister, Nancy Schandone, Navarre, Fla.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Topeka memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Masonic graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Marion Cemetery, Marion, by Center Lodge No. 147, AF&AM.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Shriners, Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge or the organization of the donor's choice.
