Farmer, Dies
Elmer J. Barber, 94, of South Hill, Cortland, RD 2, died Thursday in Boynton Beach, Fla. after a long illness.
He was born Sept. 16, 1880 in Homer, the son of Franklin and Alice Totman Barber, and had been a resident of this area all his life.
Mr. Barber was a charter member of Cortland Memorial Baptist Church of Cortland and had been a member of Cortlandville Grange since 1908.
He served as an assessor for the Town of Cortlandville for several years. Prior to his retirement, he operated a dairy farm on South Hill, where he had made his home for the past 70 years.
Surviving are three sons, Franklyn J. Barber of Delray Beach, Fla., Derwood E. and H. Dale Barber, both of Cortland; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be conducted Sunday at the convenience of the family at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, with the Rev. Loren G. House Jr., pastor of the Preble Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be in Cortland Rural Cemetery.
