August 12, i162, he enlisted in Company E of the 117th Regiment and served until the regiment was mustered out in Syracuse at the close of
June 1865. Mr. Marriott was a private in Company E, and in 1863 was promoted to corporal, and in 1864 to sergeant, which rank he held till mustered out. He participated in all but one of the battles of the regiment, and was at Fort Fisher and the siege of Petersburg, its most famous engagements.
In 1870 Mr. Marriott was united in marriage with Sarah M. Steinberg of Albany, who survives with the following children: G. Lynn, who is assistant treasurer of the Citizen's Trust & Deposit Company of Utica; Claude M., who is employed in the credit department of' the Heinz Company of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mrs. Charles B. Manktelow and Mrs. John B. Munn of Oriskany. He also leaves a brother, Morris Marriott of Adams, Jefferson County, and several grandchildren.
