Dale was born June 14, 1929 to Carl and Marie (Lien) Braaten at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin. He attended country schools and Austin High School. He married Charlotte Rae Hanson September 5, 1948 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. They had eight children. They lived in Austin until March of 1964 when they moved to rural Blooming Prairie. They started Brookside Campground, which the family still runs. He also worked for Hormel Foods Corp. for nearly 35 years. Dale was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. After retiring, the couple wintered in Arizona.
Dale is survived by his wife, Charlotte Braaten of Austin: sons and daughters-in-law; Steven and Becky Braaten, Ronald Braaten, Robert and Mary Braaten, all of Blooming Prairie, Barry and Jane Braaten of Ellendale, Bradley and Dawn Braaten of Owatonna, Brian Braaten and friend Holly King of Blooming Prairie and Rochester, respectively; daughters and sons-in-law: Cynthia and Thomas Grafe of Kasson, Lori and Raymond Luster of Dallas, Texas; fifteen grandchildren; a great-grandson; brother, Blaine Braaten of Austin; brother-in-law, Fred Sill of Glendale, California; sister-in-law, Ethel Braaten of Tampa, Florida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raeburn and Pat Hanson of Waltham; sister-in-law, Shirley Jan of Arnold, Maryland; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters. Arrangements were by Clasen-Jordan Mortuary of Austin, MInnesota.
