George A. Anding enlisted with the Charley Clark Rifles at Union Church, Mississippi on 27 April 1861 to serve the Confederacy during the Civil War. The unit would become Co. H of the 12th Mississippi and would be sent east to fight in Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Anding rose to the rank of 1st Sergeant in 1862. He was wounded at the Battle of 2nd Manassass , but returned to the ranks in early 1863, serving at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Briscoe Station,and the Overland Campaign. He was killed in action at the Battle for the Weldon Railroad, near Petersburg, on 21 Aug 1864.
