The death of John F. Bird occurred last Thursday afternoon at the home of his son Inman in Star City, the result of a self-inflicted shotgun wound. The elderly man, seventy-two years of age, had been in failing health for some time and had grown melancholy. Death of instantaneous according to Dr. C. E. Linton, county corner, who made an investigation. Mr. Bird was born in Harrison county, Ind., and spent all of his life there until the family's removal to Beaver township of this county twenty years ago. As a young man he taught school and was also in the mercantile business. After a few years on a Beaver township farm they moved to Winamac, where Mrs. Bird died five years ago. Surviving the father are sons Inman of Star City, Roland of Detroit, and Russell of Kansas City. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Fry & Lange funeral home, conducted by the Rev. J. J. Meyer. Burial was in the Winamac cemetery.
