Kenneth F. Kugler, 91, former Idaho Falls resident and jeweler, passed away at his home in Medford, Ore., on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, with Don and Kathy at his side.

Ken was born Nov. 13, 1919, at a dry farm near Soda Springs, Idaho. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He started working at his father's jewelry store, Kugler's Jewelers. Later, he met Henrietta Weih when he was visiting his sister Shirley during a trip to watch-making school. Soon after, he married Henrietta on July 13, 1941.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and came back to manage the jewelry store, which he later purchased from his father. He sold the store in 1968 and in 1976 moved to Medford after visiting his daughter Kathy, vacationing on the Oregon coast.

Ken was a marksman with a pistol, loved hunting and fishing, was active in Rotary, the Masonic Lodge and the Presbyterian Church. He was an amateur radio operator and worked with other "HAMS" setting up emergency communications when the Teton Dam broke. In retirement, he added computers as a hobby and started Computer ACES, a club to promote computer use and education for seniors older than 50. At its high point, the club had two chapters with more than 500 members.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Karen; parents, Don and Ivy Kugler; wife, Henrietta Weih; sister, Shirley Doepken; and son, George.

He is survived by his sons, David (Vicki) Kugler and Don (Sally) Kugler; daughter, Kathryn (Don) Williams; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was held Friday, March 11, at The Royal Oak Retirement Community in Medford, where he lived the past few years.

He was loved and respected by his family and friends. Those of us left behind rejoice, as we know he has gone to a better place. We will take the life lessons he shared with us and carry on, glad to have had time to share his friendship, love and smile.
