A. C. U. Berry, 82, former Northwest contractor, died Tuesday in St. Vincent's hospital.
He was born June 21, 1874 in Mussoorie, India, son of a Royal Engineer. In 1891 he moved to Vancouver, B. C., thence to Portland, where he lived the rest of his life.
He was a contractor on the first underwater pipeline crossing the Willamette river in Portland, worked on the water reservoirs at Mt. Tabor, the first Madison street bridge, the Tillamook railroad and jetties and the water system of the city of Walla Walla, Wash. He was superintendent of the Portland airport for 12 years before his retirement.
An ardent golfer, he was a member of Waverley Country club and a past member of both Portland and Alderwood Golf clubs.
Mr. berry is survived by the widow, Mrs. Rae Berry; a daughter, Mrs. Crawford Reid of Monrovia, Cal.; two sons, Robert U. Berry of Royal Oaks, Mich., and A. C. U. Berry Jr., Portland; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the graveside at Riverview cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday.
