Hulda was born in Bromberg/Bomberg Germany and immigrated with her family as an infant. Her siblings were: William, Otto, Mary, Gustav, Edith, Emma and one infant unknown. They located in Mapleton, MN and in Oct of 1902, she married Herman Birr, also a German immigrant. They settled on a farm in Sterling Twp, Blue Earth Co,MN and began to raise a family. Herman became ill and later died in a sanatorium in Mpls, MN in 1920. Hulda kept her family together and they ran the farm until her son Edwin took over. She resided in Mankato with her daughter Laura for many years. She was a woman of strong will and determination and we were fortunate to have such a great grandmother.
