Beulah Lela Dickerson McCoy died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Oakbrook Health Care Center in Whitehouse at age 87 years and 8 months. Beulah was selfless in death, as in life. She decided many years ago to donate her earthly body to The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas for research and teaching.
Beulah was born in Smith County on Oct. 15, 1926, to Oscar and Fannie Perdue Dickerson, and was the youngest of their five children. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Carter, Estelle Callison and Gladys Eaton. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Levi Dickerson.
On March 17, 1941, Beulah married Joseph Carroll McCoy, better known as Slim. They were married 57 years. Slim died in January of 1998. They had one son, Ronald Lewis McCoy. Ronny married Elaine Reavis McCoy and they live in Tyler.
Also surviving Beulah are two granddaughters, Ronna Laine McCoy Best and Robyn LaGaye McCoy, along with three great-grandchildren, Haley Alexis Best, Tyler Kenneth Burch and Mason Alexander Burch. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Beulah lived her life with kindness, generosity and grace. She was a tremendous inspiration and example to all who came in contact with her. She was "Nanny" to all of her grandchildren's friends as well as those of her great-grandchildren. She attended most of their activities and was always there to offer support and encouragement.
Even though she battled Alzheimer's for many years, she never lost her wit and humor. She will be greatly missed and remembered always by all of the people who loved her.
