Phebie Dodge Smith is my 3x-great-grandmother. She was born between 1832 and 1837. Either the gravestone is incorrect or the picture is making it difficult to read the correct birth year. The earliest I've been able to find her is in the 1851 Canadian census for Elizabethtown, Leeds County, Canada West (Ontario), Canada. Phebie is listed as 18 years old (I suspect she was younger); she is already married to James Smith (who is listed as 26 years old). They are living with James' parents, Joseph(52 farmer), his wife Margret(50), & two young boys (wards? Simon Gilpin(9) & James Johnson(4)). The 1851 Canadian census shows they are already married despite the usual marriage year of 1855 (per the 1900 US census).
