James Darwin Christy, 68, of Wister passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, in Wister.
He was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, David G. Christy and Letamae Christy.

Jim served 35 years in the military, serving his country in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. As a civilian, he worked 25 years at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith as a registered nurse. In retirement, Jim helped start a dog and cat rescue in Poteau. He loved his dog and cat children, and they loved him. His greatest love was riding and spending time with his horses.

Funeral service will be noon Tuesday at Unite Church in Spiro with Pastor Matthew Sebo officiating.
Burial will follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona; a daughter, Jennifer Sebo and husband Matthew of Spiro; a son, James Christy of Los Angeles; two sisters, Jane Davies and husband Frank of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Eberley Simonson and husband Chuck of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, David Christy of Keota; and a grandson, Devin Christy of Los Angeles.

Pallbearers will be Tyson Greenmyer, Russell Mangum, Bobby Fletcher, Gary Thompson, Tommy Ross and J.T. Ross.
