Lila Mae Reid, 90, formerly of Enid, OK, passed away June 21, 2014, at Quail Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Lila was born July 13, 1923, and was the daughter of Walter Scott Pruitt and Jennie May Danford.
She was born on her father's Cherokee Strip homestead in Grant Co., OK. The midwife attending her birth was Lila's grandmother, Bessie Danford.
Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Will; two sisters, Edrie Geuin and Docie Aebi; her brother, Boyce L. Pruitt; and a son, Gary Boyce Reid.
After surviving the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, the Pruitt family eventually moved from the farm to Enid, OK, where Lila graduated from Enid High School in the Class of 1941. She met her husband, William V. Reid, while skating at the local Enid roller rink in 1942. Her future husband was a native of Gowanda, NY and was stationed at Vance Air Force Base in Enid during WWII. Lila and Will were married on November 24, 1943, in Enid. Her beloved husband, Will, passed away in 1989. Lila was a bookkeeper at Vance AFB during WWII and then a bookkeeper for Champlin Petroleum during the late 40s. When her husband opened his own outdoor advertising company in 1955, she was the bookkeeper. After Lila's children had all left home, she went back to work as a bookkeeper for Champlin Petroleum until she retired in 1988.
Lila & Will were blessed with three children, Ron (Jeanne) Reid, Marlene (Charles) Hull, and Gary (Sheryl) Reid. Gary passed away in July of 1982. Lila has five grandchildren, Jessica Reid, Scott Martin, Heather Graham, Justin Hull, and Jonathan Reid. She has five great-grandchildren, David Martin, Taylor Graham, Haley Graham, Renner Hull, and Callan William Hull.
Lila and Will took great pleasure in traveling and camping in their fifth wheel trailer while pulling their three motorcycles behind. One road motorcycle for extended excursions and two smaller bikes for shorter rides. Lila had her own trail motorcycle that she loved to ride. Other hobbies she enjoyed besides roller skating were fishing and doing needle point, and she learned from her mother to play the piano beautifully. But her greatest passion was her family, and she was always engaged in their activities and endeavors.
Lila's peaceful rest in the arms of the Lord is well deserved, and we celebrate her life. The family wishes to express gratitude to Nancy Jacobs, Patricia Gilbert and Suzanne Clem for their caring friendship.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, of Enid, OK. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, OK. For those who wish, the family suggests memorials be made in Lila's honor to the Alzheimer's Association
of Oklahoma.
