Veronica Calhoun, 25, and her son, Alan Calhoun, 7, died June 24 from injuries received in an auto accident. Mrs. Calhoun was born in Laredo, Texas, and lived in Jeff Davis County nine years. She was employed at Amoco of Hazlehurst. Alan was born in Coffee County and attended Jeff Davis Primary School.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Calhoun of Hazlehurst; daughter, Kimberly Calhoun of Hazlehurst; her mother, Fidelia Gonzalez of Hazlehurst; her father, Benito Gonzalez of Laredo; eight sisters, Lucila Diaz, Alma Diaz, Beatriz Castellanos and Ana Laura Vela, all of Laredo, Silvia Lopez and Eva Diaz, both of Hazlehurst, Bertha Garcia and Rosaura Lara, both of Waycross; three brothers, Lucio Diaz of Laredo and Antonio Diaz of Dallas and Hector Mascorro of Dilley, Texas.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home, Hazlehurst. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with burial in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
