Darleen was born Jan. 15, 1925 in Lubbock, to Mack Daniel and Lillian Mae Newton. She graduated from Lubbock High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Tech University. She began her teaching career at the age of nineteen. She retired as an English Teacher from Lubbock High School after 31 years. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was a past president of the Audubon Society.
Survived by a daughter, Paula Richardson and husband, Dennis of Lubbock; nieces, Vanetta Miller and husband, Rick ; Janetta Barkley and husband, Neal; granddaughter, Whitney Bigham and husband, Jeffery; and a great grandson, Jack Bigham.
