PEORIA -- J.C. Carlisle, 81, of 1026 W. John H. Gwynn Junior Ave., died at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at Methodist Medical Center.

Born March 28, 1915, in Sumter County, Ala., to Ike and Pearlie Hayes Carlisle, he married Willie Mae Ruffin on Jan. 19, 1938, in Sumter County, She died Sept. 6, 1994, in Peoria.

Surviving are one daughter, Addie Grace of Lauderdale, Miss.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Willie of York, Ala.; and two sisters, Emma Amerson and Janie Coleman, both of York.

An employee of Armour Packing Co. for 13 years, he last worked there in 1972. He later worked for April Tile Co. for nine years, retiring in 1981. A member of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, he served on the deacon ministry and taught Sunday school. He also was a member of the Male Chorus and the Unity Choir.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at his church. The Rev. Cleveland Thomas Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Simons Mortuary. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
