John Leslie Goddard, 78, died at 9:45 PM Sunday [Jan. 13, 1991] in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, where he had been a patient 54 days and in failing health since May. Born Aug. 16, 1912, in Lafayette, he had been a resident of Lafayette since 1948, coming from Illinois. He married Madeline Delores Smith on Sept. 22, 1934, in Lafayette, and she survives.

Mr. Goddard owned Goddard's Heating and Plumbing, along with his brothers, Russell Goddard and Clay Goddard, from 1948 to 1961. He then worked at Alcoa until his retirement in 1978. When he was younger, he was a musician in the Lafayette area and Chicago. He had played with the Al Stewart Band. He also enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 492 and Moose Lodge 1529.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Kimmel of Lafayette; his brothers, Clay of Bloomingdale and Russell of Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Jane Gott and Mrs. Eileen Seeger, both of Lafayette; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Charles in 1975, and a sister.
