James Manning Bassett, Jr., 90, widower of Rosa Neely Bassett, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, South Carolina.
Mr. Bassett was born April 6, 1924, in Athol, Massachusetts, a son of the late James M. Bassett, Sr., and the late Hazel Newell Bassett.
He served in the US Navy in WWII and was a member of Screven Baptist Church and the Keystone Sunday school class. He was retired from International Paper Mill and was a member of the Pine Tree Club. Mr. Bassett enjoyed fishing and reading.
He was survived by two daughters, Betty B. McLeod and Jeanette B. Duncan (Paul), three grandchildren; Paige Fuhrer (Tim), Courtney Humphries (Robbie) and Kyle Duncan (Jessica), three great grandsons; three great granddaughters; a brother, Norman Bassett of Athol, Mass.; a sister, Helen Jewitt of Athol, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday June 23, 2014, in Screven Baptist Church. The Rev. Jason Williams officiated. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
