Paul Ellis Hindal, 85, of Stratford, Iowa, died Sunday, December 3 in Webster City. After cremation, memorial services will be held Thursday, December 7, 10:30 a.m. at Stanhope Parish, Stanhope, IA, with Pastor Suzie Moore officiating.

He was born January 11, 1921 in Des Moines, Iowa, son of William Ray and Mary (Peterson) Hindal. He was reared in Des Moines and graduated in 1939 from North High School. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He married Mary Marie Lawson on July 5, 1942. He worked as a contractor and also worked for Des Moines Public Schools as building inspector and Des Moines Tech carpentry and cabinet making instructor until his retirement in 1983.

He married Helen B. Foster March 3, 1966. They have made their home in rural Stratford since retirement in 1983.

He is survived by his wife and three children: Mary (Larry) Creeden, Phoenix, AZ; John Hindal, Topsham, ME; and David Hindal, Waukee, IA; sister Ardis Evans, Ottumwa; granddaughters, Jill (Kurt) Kollman, Valerie Mattingly, and grandson James Hindal, as well as four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister Gretchen Ledet. Memorials can be directed to Stanhope Parish.
