Mrs. Mildred Irene Walton, age 88, of Yulee, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 18, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. Born in Union, WV, she was second oldest of seven children born to the late John and Marjorie Ganoe Akers.

After graduating from high school she moved to Alexandria, VA to serve as a Nanny. While living in Alexandria, she met a young sailor, William Henderson Walton, whom she would marry in 1945. The newlyweds lived in Alexandria until Mr. Walton was transferred to NAS Jacksonville. Upon arriving in Jacksonville, the Walton s settled in the Lake Forest section of North Jacksonville. While raising their children, Mrs. Walton worked as a Bookkeeper for Paul Lewis Tire Company on Lem Turner Road. The Walton family attended the Grand Park Baptist Church in Jacksonville which would later move and become West Park Baptist Church.

In 1977 Mrs. Walton and her husband moved to Yulee. Since settling in Yulee, they have attended Hedges Baptist Church. Mrs. Walton's family recalls her enjoyment derived from baking, canning, sewing and working in their garden.

She leaves behind, her husband of 68 years, Bill Walton, Yulee, FL, one son, Wayne H. Walton (Carol), Kingsport, TN, two daughters, Nancy Castilleja (Victor), Jacksonville, FL, Libby Weaver, Yulee, FL, two brothers, Dick Akers and Buck Stanley, three sisters, Rose, Lorene and Edna, eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, June 23, 2014 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard with Reverend Mark Patterson, officiating. Mrs. Walton will be laid to rest at 1:30 pm on Monday in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
