Ervin served for 15 months in the South Pacific as bombardier with the U.S. Air Force, and was award the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf clusters, Asiatic Pacific ribbon with 4 battle stars, and Philippine ribbon with star. After discharge, he served with the Army Reserve for 20 years prior to his retirement as a Major in March 1985.
He had worked at Milprint, Inc. for 34 years prior to his retirement, and treasured the time he spent gardening, golfing, and relaxing in his woods.
