Ruby Maxine Allbee passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the age of 97. Maxine was born December 22, 1916 to parents Frank and Edith Robinson in rural Taylor County. Maxine grew up in rural Taylor County where she attended and graduated from Conway Consolidated School.

On June 2, 1935, she was united in marriage to Glen W. Allbee of Grinnell. To this union six children were born. The family lived in Grinnell, IA for fifteen years. While in Grinnell, Maxine worked for the Swift Dairy and Poultry Plant and at Gross-Galesburg Glove Factory during WWII. In 1951, the family moved to Chariton, Iowa where Maxine worked at the J.C. Penney store for five years.

Maxine was very active in sports and loved basketball; a game she excelled in. During her senior year in high school she was a forward on the basketball team and played in the State Tournament. At the tournament that year she won the State Free Throw Championship, Making twenty out of twenty-five free throw shots. She was awarded the Henry HasBrouk Trophy for this victory. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and never missed a game on t.v. Everyone knew not to call her while the game was on as she would not be interrupted by the phone.
Maxine also enjoyed dancing, country music, gardening, playing cards, and reading. After the children were all gone from home she took up golf and excelled at that game also. She carded a "hole-in-one" in 1987, won the ladies Senior Tournament in 1986 and she was a medalist in accomplishments in tournaments through the years.

Maxine loved family get togethers with all of her children and grandchildren. In later years, Maxine's vision diminished but she still maintained her own home and raised many beautiful flowers each year. In 2011, it became too difficult for her to live alone and safely continue to function trying to do all the things she still wanted to do and maintain. She moved to Westview Care Center in Indianola February of that year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Edith Robinson, her husband, Glen; and two brothers, Hal and Doyle Robinson.

Maxine is survived by her six children, Glen H. (Betty) Allbee of Des Moines, Iowa, Barbara Jean Altha of Venice, Florida, Peggy Ann (Chuck) Hyde of Adel, Iowa, D. Marlene (Nile) Hall of State Center, Iowa, David Clark (Kathy) Allbee of Redfield, Iowa, and Carol Lynn (John) Clark of Johnston, Iowa. Also, her sister, Barbara Lou Colter of Ankeny, Iowa and one sister-in-law, Marie Allbee of Grinnell, Iowa, plus fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chariton Senior Center or the Chariton Presbyterian Church.
