HARALD A. SCHJODT, 84

Harald A. Schjodt, 84, of Blair, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, in Omaha. Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment with military graveside honors will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Harald Albert Schjodt was born March 31, 1924, in Blair, to Albert Martin Jensen Schjodt and Andrea Marie Hansen. He graduated from Blair High School.

He farmed his entire life, except for the time he spent serving his country in the United States Army during World War II.

On May 29, 1949, he married Rhoda Iversen.
Mr. Schjodt was very involved with his community throughout the years, serving in numerous organizations. He was a member of Washington County Mutual Insurance Board from 1954 until his death. He served on the Blair School Board from 1971 to 1983 and was acting president from 1975 to 1979. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Blair Community Schools Foundation. He served on the 4-H council and was a 4-H leader. He was involved with the Washington County Fair in many areas, including County Fair Board, and was the recipient of the Washington County Fair “Bridging the Generations” Award. Other activities included the Farm Credit Services Certificate of Appreciation, and the Omaha Livestock Market Inc. Pioneer Patron Award. He was active at First Lutheran Church, serving as council member, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent, and a Luther League Sponsor. He also was a part of the Memorial Community Hospital and Good Shepherd boards.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda; sons and daughters-in-law, Lyle and Kay, Alan and Debbie, all of Blair; daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra and mark Buell, Liberty, Mo., Kay Lynne and Mark Dickinson, Sharla and Paul Gosker, and Sharie and Doug Jenson, all of Blair; sisters and brother-in-law, Veola Hansen, Blair, Eulella and Hubert Petersen, Fremont, and Rose DeLaCastro, Omaha; 13 grandchildren, Andrea and Kevin Carlson; Michelle, Kraig and Kirk Schjodt; Dustin and Heidi Buell; Taylor, Ashley and Annie Dickinson; Kiley and Katie Gosker; Sara and Stephen Jenson; three great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Zac and Kyan Carlson and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Lynne Hundtofte, and infant sister, Margaret Marie.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Community, or the Blair Community Schools Foundation.
