In November 1885, in Rochester, a son was born to Isaac De Mallie, Jr. and his wife, Rose Fackler De Mallie. Herbert was their second son, joining older brother Arthur Robert, born in 1883. The De Mallie's raised their sons in the 8th Ward of Rochester. Once his schooling was completed, Herbert worked as a salesman of plumbing supplies. After his father's death in 1917, Herbert took over the sign painting business. He married Ethel R. Humiston. At the age of 44 years, on 20 January 1930, Herbert died of multiplesclerosis. He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in the plot where his father had been buried in 1917. His mother would join him there in 1946.
