Highman, Pearl Josephine Highman nee Nalley

Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, January 2, 1956

Pearl Josephine Nalley was born in Schultz, West Virginia, on October 11, 1187, the daughter of Obediah Nalley and Sarah Sparks Nalley.

In early childhood the family moved to Monroe County, Ohio where the remainder of her life was spent. She departed this life December 14, 1955 at Woodsfield, Ohio having attained the age of 68 years, two months and three days.

She was united in marriage with Charles Franklin Highman in the year 1904. To this union the following children were born, all whom survive except one son, Leland Daniel.

Gerald Aldine Highman, of Lewisville, Route 2; Clara Mabel Hines, of Lewisville, Route 2; Audrey Luzelle Gatten, of Lewisville, Route 2; Glenn Leroy Highman, of Woodsfield; Leland Daniel Highman, who gave his life for his country in North Africa on May 6, 1943; Edsel Burdette Highman, of Graysville, Route 1, and Hilda Waneta Dalrymple, of Woodsfield, Route 2.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who departed this life August 29, 1954, and the following sisters; Elizabeth Bell, Margaret Mathes, Zetta Fridley.

She is survived by the following sisters and brother: Nora Hannah Fisher, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Mattie Gatten, of Woodsfield, Route 2; Laura Smith, of the State of Oregon, and George Randall Nalley, of Creston, Ohio.

She is survived by twenty-six grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.

Mrs. Highman was a member of the Church of Christ, having been baptized by Evangelist Robert L. Fraley.

She led an industrious life consecrated to the concepts and activities fundamental to a Christian society. Her family can attest to her love, patience and self-sacrifice; her neighbors have witnessed her loyalty, patriotism and devotion to duty; all who knew her will remember her friendliness, hospitality, and generosity. In a lifetime beset with much hardship, travail and suffering, she exemplified faith and hope, the attributes which she, in her generosity, would probably wish most to bequeath to those who remain.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel, with Minister Robert Fraley and Minister J. V. A. Traylor officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn cemetery.
