Anne Newton Dorn
BEAUFORT - Anne Newton Dorn, beloved daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Felder Newton of Beaufort, S.C., died after a brief illness.
Services were held Monday, May 19, 2014, in Christ Church Episcopal, Greenville, S.C., with Rector, the Rev. Harrison McLeod officiating.
She is survived by her husband, W. Jennings B. Dorn Jr; son, William J.B. Dorn; and daughter, Madison Elizabeth Dorn.
Anne was as proficient with the bow in hunting as with the bow in playing the violin; she played in symphonies from age 14. Born with a highly-tuned ear both to music and the heart, she created loving ties with all those she encounted in her working days in New York and as a homemaker.
Her multi-talented life was all occupying, but her role as wife and mother to her own and their friends was unusual. Anne was like the opening hymn at her Service, "All Things Bright and Beautiful." She loved fly fishing, was a prize-winning horseback rider and an acclaimed cake maker for the church bazaars.
Anne is also survived by her brother, Andrew, wife, June (Godshalk) and sons, James and Thomas; by her aunt, Faith Newton Stuart (Charles) and cousins, Valerie, Lee and Sarah; by her aunt, Kay Felder Bodenheimer and cousins, Beth Dworjanyn (Peter) and Melissa (Johnathan) McInnis; and also by her much-loved Dorn families and a host of friends in the United States and elsewhere.
"Blessed are those whose eyes saw her alive." We do not despair, for her spirit of benevolence and her joys of life live on among us.
Her father, Robert Newton adds, "Anne visited us several times with her children and came to love York and York Place. I succeeded that icon of Child Care, Sandy Howie. With the values set by Sandy and his wife, and with a dedicated staff and many friends, for my wife and I, it was a extraordinary time in our lives."
