Her family owned the New Castle Hotel in Libertyville, Illinois, now a registered landmark. When she was older, Eleanor worked for the local newspaper as a photographer.
She married William C. Amann and they had four children; one girl, Lorie, and three boys. Keith, Kevin, and Dana. In 1966, William died when his car collided with the vehicle of a drunk driver driving the opposite way on the freeway. She now lived in California and raised her children on her own. In 1982, her eldest granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Amann, came to live with her. Elizabeth had been named for her. (She never really liked her first name). Eleanor raised Elizabeth her entire life and was the only Mother she ever knew. And in 1985, Eleanor was blessed with a second grandchild; Amanda Melissa Getz; daughter of her eldest child, Lorie.
In 2004, after eighteen months of declining health, she died of Multi-organ failure at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills. Ironically, this was the same hospital her eldest granddaughter was born in 22 years earlier.
She was a beloved Mother and Grandmother.
