Marita Jane Burton, 98, of Sandusky, died Sunday morning, June 8, 2014, in Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky.
She was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Fostoria, Ohio, and was a 1934 graduate of Sandusky High School. Jane was employed as a secretary at Good Samaritan Hospital, until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky, where she had been a member of the Rebecca Circle and the Altar Committee. She was also a member of the Harlequin's, Women's Civic Group, Firelands Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and Thunderbird Ladies Golf league.
She is survived by one daughter, Connie (Robert) Souter, of Sandusky; two granddaughters, Lisa VanVlerah, of Huron, and Beth (John) Hussey, of Cincinnati; and three great- grandsons, Bryce VanVlerah and Jack and Scott Hussey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall J. Burton, in 1989; and her parents, Horace and Tura (Hunter) Hutter.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 16, until a funeral service at noon at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Timothy Nilsen will officiate. Private graveside services for the family will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
