Dead Eugene G. Mettler, 36, of Woodbridge, a volunteer fireman who was riding on the fire engine as it answered a call to extinguish a grass fire at Lind's Airport. (A crash which totally demolished a Woodbridge fire truck and a peach truck involved in a collision at Cooper's Corner on Highway 99).
Mettler, who died in the accident, was a native of Menno, S.D. He had resided here since 1925 and was a member of the Zion Reformed Church and the volunteer fire department, which he was serving at the time of his death.
He leaves his wife, Johanna Mettler, and two children, Lemon Mettler, and Charlene Mettler, all of Lodi.
He also is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Mettler and the following brothers and sisters: Emil Mettler, E.J. Mettler, Richard Mettler, Christ Mettler, and Mrs. Emma Frey, all residents of Lodi.
