Laurel, Maryland
Sep 28, 1931 – Jun 12, 2014 (Age 82)

Nicoletta "Nicki" Mary Leonard passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of Thursday June 12, 2014 in her residence at Morningside House of Laurel. Born in Greensburg, PA Sept 28, 1931, she was the oldest daughter of six children of the late Flora and Dominic Detore. She attended Greensburg High School and after graduation she went on to become a secretary for Walworth Company. On July 26th, 1954 she married Robert Joseph Leonard and they moved to Arlington, VA where both started working for the National Security Agency (NSA). After 4 years in Arlington, Bob and Nicki moved to Riverdale, Maryland and became the loving and devoted parents of 3 children and practicing members of St. Bernard's Church. They moved to Laurel, Maryland where Nicki went on to became a full time volunteer director for "Help Laurel" and were active members of St. Mary's Church. Bob retired after 35 years of service with NSA and the couple then moved to Hustontown PA where Nicki continued doing volunteer work for several organizations including becoming working members of St. Stephen's Church. On June 12th of 2009, her loving husband Robert J. Leonard passed away and Nicki moved back to the Laurel area to be near her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. We have been blessed to learn many valuable lessons from our mother; always keep God in your life, help and pray for those less fortunate, love all and be kind to others. She always reminded us to eat everything on our plates because there were people starving throughout the world and when you can dance, dance, dance! She is survived by her two daughters and son, Jo Ann Marie Berry of Elizabeth City NC, Sharon Ann Garcia of Huntington MD, and Robert Anthony Leonard of Laurel MD. Her grandchildren, Jimmy Robert Herberson, Shawn Ryan Leonard, Danielle Marie Beam, Robin Antoinette Leonard and great grandchild, Chloe Kate Leonard. Also by her brothers Dominic Detore, Francis Detore, and sister Clara "Jane" Roy, as well as extended family and friends too numerous to mention but not forgotten. Isaiah 57:1-2 Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.
