He was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Las Vegas to Leandro Candelaria and Stella Garcia, and was a brother to Conferina Griego, Edward Candelaria, Aurora Trujillo and Emma Garcia.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Returning home, he married Mary Gonzales on Dec. 28, 1950. He came to Cheyenne, where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years.
Mr. Candelaria volunteered for St. Joseph's Catholic Church and served in the American Legion Honor Guard for 15 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his children, Nick Candelaria of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Rod Candelaria of Thornton, Colo., Kathy Inskeep of Thornton and Andrea Quintero of Vallejo; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Candelaria; and sons, George and Leonard Candelaria.
