Edward Harold Marshall, 81, of Rockford, IL passed away March 27, 2009 in Northwoods Care Centre in Belvidere. Born February 28, 1928 in Boston, MA, to Edward Joseph and Gertrude Charlotte (Bock) Marshall. June 9, 1963, Ed married Ella Jo Ryburn of Heavener, OK.

A loving father, Ed had seven children. Edward served in the Army for over twenty years, doing duty at Ft. Stewart, GA, Ft. Chaffee Arkansas, Ft. Benjamin Harrison at Indianapolis, IN and in China, Japan, Korea, Germany and Viet Nam. He retired from the Army and became a R.O.T.C. instructor at East High School in Rockford and later at Jefferson and Auburn.

Ed owned and operated Ed's Mobile Home Service; he also set up the auto repair shop for Care-a-Van of Rockford and worked as a mechanic there. Edward was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Rockford, served on the Recreation Council at Ken-Rock Community Center, on the Board of Directors for the Golden Agers Center and was a member and past president of Golden-K Kiwanis Club.

Edward is survived by his wife, Jo, of Rockford; daughters, Sharon (Mike) Everidge, of Crothersville, IN, Gail (Curtis) Smith of Roscoe, IL, Marie Nestico of Boston, MA; sons, John (Jill) Marshall of Tallassee, AL, Joseph (Cheryl) Marshall and Mike (Karen) Marshall, both of Rockford, David (Geraldine) Marshall of Boston, MA; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; sister, Laura Mohler of Plainfield, IL; sisters in law, Kathleen Mangum of Lincoln, NE, Pat (John) Wann of Heavener, OK; nine nieces and eight nephews and their families. Predeceased by parents, six brothers in law, two sisters in law, and three nieces.

The family would like to express our thanks to the caring staff of Northwoods Care Centre for their care of Dad for the past six years. A celebration of Ed's life and rebirth will be held Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Honquest Family FuneralHome with Crematory, Rockford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Ed's memory to Northwoods Care Centre, 2250 Pearl Street, Belvidere, IL 61008, Alzheimer's Association, 4777 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108, or Bethany United Methodist Church, 410 Eighth St, Rockford, IL 61110.
