Pearl Ione (Hughes) Dombovy was born on August 15, 1923 in Wayzata, Minnesota to William and Bertha (Heidelberger) Hughes. She grew up on a farm near Wayzata and attended school through the eighth grade. Her and her foster brother Leo enjoyed being daredevils and driving through the fields. In 1984, Pearl moved to Women Lake near Hackensack where they built a home. She then moved to Birchview Gardens in Hackensack and in 2012 Pearl moved to Edgewood Vista in Alexandria.

Pearl liked to dance, shop, cook, and her sweets including Schwann's Ice Cream. She belonged to a card club for 50 years. Pearl enjoyed traveling and traveled many places in the U.S. and two trips to Europe with Vince and other friends.
