Betty Jeanne (Daniel) Collins peacefully passed away at Greenwood County Medical Center in Eureka, Kansas on June 6, 2014; she was 94 years old.
Betty was born on April 28, 1920 in El Dorado, Kansas; the daughter of Doster E. and Zoe Mary (Alvis) Daniel. Betty received her education at Kansas State University and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics; she then earned her teaching certificate and became a middle school math teacher until her retirement around 1974.
Around 1943, Betty married Avey H. Collins, the couple was wed in Utah and later in 1944 blessed with a son: Dean Avery Collins. Upon the couples retirement they decided to relocate to Toronto, Kansas where they lived the remainder of their lives.
During their retirement Avery was a 32nd Degree Mason so Betty was involved with him in that venture; she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the New York Valley Church in Yates Center, Kansas. Betty was also politically involved in Toronto, Kansas; she had met some interesting people for the State of Kansas throughout her life. She enjoyed quilting and knitting and used to be seen around the area hospitals handing out the caps she knitted to various newborns.
Betty Jeanne (Daniel) Collins was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Marie, Doster Jr., and Norma. She is survived by her son: Avery Dean Collins and wife Jolene V. of Vancouver, Washington; a brother: Perry Daniel of Prescott, Arizona, also by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Betty Jeanne (Daniel) Collins are planned for Friday, June 13, 2014 at 10:30AM at the New York Valley Church of God in Yates Center, Kansas; Burial will follow in Yates Center Cemetery. No formal visitation is planned. The family suggests memorials to the New York Valley Church of God or the Order of the Eastern Star- Golden Rod Chapter #163 which may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home P.O. Box 188 Yates Center, Kansas 66783.
