Born July 19, 1958 in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Julia A. (Wetzel) Altland.
Joe was employed at Hanover Foods Corp for over 35 years. He was a 1976 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown, a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, McSherrystown and the McSherrystown Home Association.
He enjoyed yard sales and auctions and was an avid Orioles and Colts fan.
Surviving is one daughter; Elizabeth K. Altland of Hanover, a brother Jerry Altland and his wife Beverly of Hanover, a sister; Marianne Williams and a nephew Nick Williams both of Rydal.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Annunciation Catholic Church, 26 N. Third St., McSherrystown, with Rev. Lawrence W. Sherdel officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hanover
