Mattie Dee (Gaines) Cain, age 79, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital Main Campus.

Mattie was born December 5, 1934 in Butler County, KY to the late Carlie and Thelma (Mallory) Gaines. She had worked for Indiana Bell for over 35 years before retiring in 1989. She was an active member of New Bethel Southern Baptist Church; having worked as the church secretary for 10 year, singing in the church choir and teaching Bible study class. She loved reading her bible daily and sharing the word of God. She was also a member of Church Class at New Bethel.

Surviving Mattie are her twin daughters, Yvette (Billy) Shutt of Owensboro, KY and Yvonne (Robert "Randy") Gibson of Evansville; one son, Randy Lee (Rose Mary) Cain of Evansville; three sisters, Mildred "Maureen" (Willard "Willie" Schaftlein of Greensboro, NC, Allie Mae (Vincent) Kunz of Lafayette, IN and Sherry Gail (Larry) Schmitt of Evansville; two grandchildren, Chad (Heather) Cain and Lindsay (Jeff) Beck and a great grandson, Reed Beck.

In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Billy Ray Cain in 2012.

Funeral services for Mattie will begin at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Mark Lowe officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
